V2 CCGA Volunteer Highlight: Brian McShane

Meet Brian McShane, an incredible volunteer with the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary Central & Arctic Region for over 16 years! He currently serves as the Arctic Operations Manager in Yellowknife, NWT, supporting 20 auxiliary units and more than 239 volunteers.

Brian was recently awarded the 2024 Mustang Survival Rescue of the Year at the Canadian Safe Boating Awards, honouring his heroic actions on August 17, 2024. After a 16-foot vessel capsized on Great Slave Lake, NWT, Brian was contacted to respond. He rescued seven people that day, including four adults, two children, and an 8-week-old infant.
When asked what is the main reason for volunteering? he quickly replied that "it's about building relationships with people in northern communities."

Thank you, Brian, for your service and your commitment to saving lives!
