Joint CCGA/ USCGA Training

Ted with Bob Laurer Chief of Staff Steve and Tim
Ted with Bob Laurer Chief of Staff Steve and Tim
On Friday June 4, 2010 four members of Unit 265 Falcon III District 1 of the CCGA joined 9ER Division 1 District 1 of the USCGA for two days of class room and on water training. The training days were hosted by the USCGA held at the Port of Ogdensburg New York.

This training is an annual event for the USCGA for its members covering topics from basic navigation including chart work and hands on training with different knots and applications of various lines types and their properties. The on water training included exercises in towing, PIW and following a predetermined course.  On Saturday the Senior Chief and some of his staff from Station Alexandria Bay joined the training and added value with a morning lesson in Marlin Spike.

Best practises were shared by both the Canadian and American Auxiliarys and what we learned from each other will stand us in could stead when the need arises to work together in joint rescues along our common borders. Both groups felt that the time spent getting to know each other was invaluable and have committed to participate again in joint training in the near future.
